August 1 2008 Hunt

My hunting buddy Dave and I took Monkey on a short hunt down south of here on August 1,2008. The only dog we took was Monkey due to JJ having her jaw broken the week before and it being so hot. I turned Monkey out into a thick block with a creek running through it, an ideal place for a big hog to lay up....and we were right! Monkey found, bayed and fought this hog while getting wrecked in the head high palmettos. Dave had to shoot the hog (we didn't have a catch dog with us) with his .357. It was a big barr hog with 2 5/8" cutters. Hog weighed just over 200 lbs on the scales, gutted, so we are guessing around 250 live weight. Monkey is stitched and stapled, but hopefully will recover fully.
